The heart is a muscle that contracts regularly (70 beats/min). these contractions insure that blood is propelled to all body organs. The contraction of the atriums (auricular systole) are rhythmic and simultaneous, so are the contraction of the ventricles (ventricular systole). For each heartbeat, the right ventricle sends blood to the pulmonary artery that carries it to the lungs and the left ventricle sends blood to the aorta that carries it to the organs. After the atrium and ventricle systole, the heart enters in the general diastole phase which is the rest phase.
Questions:
- What is the normal range of beats per minutes?
- Which vessel carries oxygenated blood to body organs?
- Which vessel carries deoxygenated blood to the lungs?
